George returns to AC Doors

AC Doors looking to add offensive boost to its lineup

It was a day in 2017 much like many other days in the AC Doors front office. Team executives were gearing up for another season, searching for answers to finally put AC Doors over the hump, ending a long and gut-wrenching period filled with playoff disappointment after playoff disappointment. Then, out of nowhere, the phone began ringing; on the other line was Rene George, who had seemingly worn out his welcome in many other junior gents leagues in the Maritimes. George pleaded with management for a chance, promising to clean up his off-ice antics, while seeking long-term stability.

AC Doors management took a chance on the then-31-year-old George - inking George to an unprecedented ten-year contract. The contract, as luck would have it, would pay off in spades for AC Doors, resulting in back-to-back championship titles, with George securing the Bud Davies' trophy as League MVP of the playoffs just last year.

However, it became clear soon after the second championship that the honeymoon phase was over. George was eager to parlay his individual accolades into a more lucrative deal, and informed team president Matt Myers that he would not return to AC Doors absent a new deal, which would make him the highest-paid right winger in league history. Myers balked at the strong-arm negotiation tactics, and rather than give in to the outrageous demands, stuck to his guns (Myers would eventually step down as AC Doors president of Hockey Operations).

With a new-look front office, AC Doors returned to the table with George. Toiling near the bottom of league standings after three weeks, it was clear that the holdout was creating tension and uncertainty within the locker room. As of late Saturday evening, sources are reporting that the team has come to terms with its disgruntled forward. George is expected in the lineup versus Novacorp tonight. Game time is 9:30 - all eyes will be on the warmup to see if the murmurs around the league are correct.
