Wildcard Weekend GAME 1
2018-02-28It came down to games in the final week of the season, but the matchups for wildcard weekend are finally set.
Sack-Vegas (3rd place - 9-5-0-6) vs. Nova Corporation (6th place - 4-15-0-1).
Season series - Sack-Vegas 4-0
In a matchup pitting two franchises in their inaugural seasons, Sack-Vegas looks to ride a scorching second-half into the playoffs taking on Nova Corp at 6:30 p.m.
Co-scoring leader Brett Arthur (26 goals, 15 assists) is well supported, as four members of Sack-Vegas have exceeded the twenty point threshold - Zack Thomas (22 goals, 7 assists), Andrew Skinner (10 goals, 17 assists), Justin Hessian (7 goals, 17 goals) and Matt Arthur (9 goals, 11 assists). The challenge has been keeping the pucks out of the net for Sackvegas, who surrendered the third most goals in the leage.
Nova Corp's season has been largely successful, albeit with underwhelming results in the standings. Of their four wins, two came against defending champions CKG.
Nova has been backstopped by journeyman goaltender Dave White, who has been peppered with pucks throughout the year. In terms of offence, Carson Colbourne and Andrew Hutchinson have largely led the way, while the defensive tandem of Cody Scott and Jamie Sweet has proven effective when paired together. Committment has been an issue for Nova this year, but with a one-game wild card, Nova could very well pose a threat depending on the team being iced on Sunday.
The one-game winner take all goes Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on Ice Pad B at the East Hants Sportsplex.
