CKG ensured their opening night was a success with a 6-2 win over new look Nova Corporation during Sunday's 7:30pm matchup. Nova Corporation (formerly Half Pucked) looked sharp in their new baby blue and white jersey resembling the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, it was CKG who controlled the play in the opening minutes outshooting Nova 10-1 in the first five minutes of play, although they were unable to beat netminder Dave White.
Andrew Wigg (Lantz, NS) would break the deadlock with a slick individual effort chipping the puck past a defenceman at his own blue line before calming pick high blocker over White to give CKG a 1-0 lead. CKG new addition Cole Isenor (Dutch Settlement) quickly made an impression when he ripped a snap shot blocker side on White off a set up by Wigg to make it 2-0 CKG. However, Nova Corp would not give in, and a stray breakout pass by Matt Doudelet was intercepted by Cody Scott who wired one past Kinnon MacMillan just under the bar to make the score 2-1. Mikey Bishra scored on an assist from Jon Kinney after Kinney fired a shot on net received his own rebound and hit Bishra in front to notch the game at 2. The game would remain tied after the first half intermission.
CKG would respond early in the 2nd when Evan Dickie scored a beauty dekeing out Dave White in tight with assists going to Andrew Smith and Billy Hartley. Dickie would score his second on a deflection on a point shot from CKG defenceman Nick Croft (NFLD -Dal Tigers) to make it 4-2. AP player Alex Rawding (Valley, NS), filling in for Justin Campbell would score back to back goals late to ice the game in favour of CKG, assists going to Matt Doudlet (2), and Tyson Aalders.
Kinnon MacMillan was sharp when called upon stopping 18 of 20 in the win, while Dave White was outstanding stopping 38 of 44 in a losing cause.
